Chevrolet Silverado EV vs Tesla Cybertruck Model Comparison | Schumacher Chevrolet Little Falls

Now that electric cars and SUVs are firmly part of our automotive landscape, manufacturers have started to bring out electric pickups. For Chevrolet, this means an electric Silverado, called the Silverado EV. Like Chevrolet's other EVs, it's built on the proven Ultium platform, which underpins the entire family of GM electric vehicles, and has shown itself to be highly capable before the Silverado EV was even revealed. But when you talk about electric vehicles, comparisons to Tesla are almost inevitable, as the company remains the biggest all-electric vehicle company in the world. Tesla's latest is the Cybertruck, a much-hyped and unusual-looking pickup that is Tesla's first foray into vehicles built to do serious work. Let's take a look at how the two stack up to each other.

We don't yet have all of the information on the Silverado EV, but the information we have paints an impressive picture. Pricing is similar, with both vehicles coming with dual motors and all-wheel drive at this price point. The Cybertruck costs a bit more, which wouldn't be a big deal if it was also more capable, but that price actually gets you less horsepower and less towing capacity. But this is nothing compared to the enormous gap in range. There are a few different configurations for the Cybertruck, with the longest-range example able to reach an estimated 340 miles. This is the kind of range that would be considered quite good in a sedan or SUV, but electric pickups tend to offer more, as a lot of times, EV batteries will double as portable power sources for worksites. That's why the Silverado EV comes with up to an estimated 450 miles of range, making range a huge advantage for the Silverado EV.

Both of these trucks seat five, with roomy cabins that make for a somewhat short pickup bed. The Silverado EV gets around this by offering a Multi-Flex tailgate, which can be configured in a number of different ways to allow for more storage. But it is the Multi-Flex midgate that gives you the most space. This folds down along with the back seats to make for a total of 10 feet 10 inches of bed length. The Cybertruck offers 6 feet of bed length, and that's just all you get. In general, the design of the Cybertruck is unlike any other truck on the road. Looks are subjective, so maybe you consider that to be a good thing, but a meme-forward design philosophy is certainly an unusual move on Tesla's part. Tesla made a lot of promises in connection to this truck, including using the word "bulletproof" to describe the bodywork, a term that armored vehicle manufacturers tend to avoid, preferring "bullet resistant" so as not to risk over-promising. It was also said to be able to "briefly serve as a boat," although with at least one Cybertruck having been totaled by a carwash, we can't recommend that you try this.

Chevrolet Silverado EV

Winner - Chevrolet Silverado EV

The Silverado EV is not built on the same platform as the conventional Silverado, but it shares the name because it serves the same function, it is a truck, for doing truck things, just with electric power. The Cybertruck is...something else. It's a fashion statement, a status symbol, or maybe just a meme. There's a market for that, Tesla has been selling them, and the Cybertruck does have some capability too. But it does seem like truck things come second for the Tesla, and for people who need an actual truck, the Silverado EV is clearly the superior product.
