Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray

About The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray

With the debut of the C8, the Corvette saw a major update, with the iconic American sports car becoming mid-engine for the first time. But Chevrolet wasn't done with the Corvette firsts for this generation. With the E-Ray, Chevrolet has brought us the first hybrid Corvette, as well as the first to send power to all four wheels. It also offers the fastest 0-60 time in the history of the nameplate, 2.5 seconds. The E-Ray uses the same LT2 V8 engine that you find in the Stingray, but here it's mated to a hybrid system that adds an additional 160 horsepower, bringing the total up to 655. The E-Ray wears the same widebody styling as the top-of-the-range Z06, which means it has the aggressive looks to match its impressive power.

What the Critics Say

"Since its launch, the C8 Corvette has been a staff favorite at the Car and Driver offices and a 10Best winner not only because of its brilliant ride-and-handling and seemingly endless power but also because of how easy it is to live with daily." - Car & Driver

"From our First Ride review, we can confirm that the E-Ray launches hard and with little drama. During a 0-105 mph launch, we could feel the extra grip of the electric motor driving the front wheels. The Corvette E-Ray can easily get sideways too, which Chevy proved on a giant autocross cone course and on a drift circle, thanks to its 125-lb-ft front/470-lb-ft rear torque split. Although the E-Ray is a different beast from the Z06, it's still a beast nonetheless." - MotorTrend

What's New For 2025

The Corvette E-Ray is only a year old, so changes for 2025 have been minor. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard, and yellow brake calipers are available. You have two new paint colors to choose from, Competition Yellow Tintcoat and Hysteria Purple. Inside, you can now get blue stitching with the black interior, or an entirely new color known as Habanero.

Incredible Performance

All forms of the C8 Corvette offer seriously impressive performance capabilities, but as the quickest 0-60 Corvette of all time, the E-Ray is still worthy of special mention. The E-Ray is propelled by two motors, a 6.2-liter V8 mounted in front of the rear axle, and an electric motor powering the front axle. This is why the E-Ray is able to hit 60 mph quicker than the Z06 despite having less overall horsepower. The power difference isn't huge, but it's the way the E-Ray uses its power that makes it unique. It will then go on to a quarter-mile time of 10.5 seconds, which is also an absolutely staggering number. Chevrolet has fitted the E-Ray with all-season tires (although summer/performance tires are available), and combined with the Magnetic Selective Ride Controlâ„¢ and e-AWD, the E-Ray is built to be able to handle all-season touring.

Advanced Technology

It is the hybrid drivetrain that sets the E-Ray apart from the rest of the field. This drivetrain provides both extra power and extra traction. There is even a Stealth Mode, which allows the E-Ray to travel for short distances under almost totally silent electric-only power. Even the brakes are made with cutting-edge materials, with carbon ceramic brakes coming standard. That's because the E-Ray incorporates much of the technology developed for the highly successful C8.R, Chevrolet's endurance racing version of the C8. The standard head-up display gives you performance data that you don't have to take your eyes off the road (or track) to see, with more in-depth information being displayed on the E-Ray's twin screens. For an even more in-depth analysis, there is the available Performance Data Recorder, which lets you review the data later.

Purposeful Design

There is no mistaking what the E-Ray, or any Corvette, was built to do. The aggressive design is clearly intended to go fast, which is exactly what it does. That said, there is some real practicality to the E-Ray. With the engine moved to the back, the C8 has a front storage compartment that is surprisingly spacious, and the E-Ray's front electric motor is small enough not to impinge on that space at all. There is a second storage space in the back, behind the engine. This space can be used to store the removable roof section found on Coupe versions of the E-Ray, but with the roof in place, it gives you even more space for luggage. Thanks to the adjustable magnetorheological dampers, the E-Ray's suspension is capable of producing a surprisingly comfortable ride, but can be stiffened up to be just as impressive on track days. The two-seat interior is essentially unchanged from the rest of the C8 lineup, but that's very much a good thing, as the interior offers a level of comfort that rivals rarely attain.
